Several of the pillars in our community came together to create events and programs for adults 65+. The group offers a variety of stimulating, interesting events throughout the year based on members’ interests and requests.
The group took the name Pillars: Shearith’s Hazak Community. The name Hazak comes from the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s Organization for Mature Jews (65+). In Hazak the het (ח) stands for Hokhmah – wisdom. The zayin (ז) for Ziknah – maturity. And the kuph (ק) for Kadima – looking ahead.
